The city of Lahore is synonymous with delicious cuisine. The restaurants as well as street food vendors of the city serve scrumptious food. However, there are times when all one wants to enjoy is home-cooked food. Inspired by this, Ayesha Ali started her own home-cooking business aptly called Yeh Ghar Ka Hai, which is the go-to place for Lahoris to enjoy authentic Punjabi cuisine. Following is our exclusive chit chat with her.

Can you please tell our readers a bit about yourself?

I am a house wife married into a food crazy family whose favorite pass time is Food!

When did you first realize that you had a love for cooking and what sparked the idea of starting your own business Yeh Ghar Ka Hai?

Born into a Kashmiri household, i started learning how to cook at a very early age. My mother is my biggest inspiration as she managed everything to perfection. Luckily I was married into another Kashmiri family and my Mother in Law (Late Madam Zile Huma) and my Daadi Saas inspired and mentored me to further enhance my cooking skills.

Then the Facebook are started and food forums became part of our daily lives. I was suggested many times to take up my culinary passion to next stage and open a restaurant/café.

Eventually in Sept 2014 l was encouraged by food gurus Mr Asad Sheikh & Foodie Queen Nadia Jamil to start my own Facebook page. As I work from home my youngest brother in Law Hamza Ali “Kuki” suggested the name YEH GHAR KA HAI -YGKH

How did you go about learning to cook? Are you self-taught or formally taught? Where have you found the majority of information you use today?

Never got any professional training, but it’s been almost 35 years now since I started cooking. Most of my recipes are my mother’s or my mother in law’s especially the authentic desi food. But if I want to try new stuff, getting information/assistance/new ideas these days is no problem. There are thousands of recipes available online.

What is your favorite part of being a practicing home cook?

I get to spend time with my family.

What do you think is the most challenging aspect of what you do in the kitchen?

I am a freak about maintaining quality and client satisfaction. Therefore I don’t have helpers and prepare everything myself.

To date, which of your dishes has been the most popular?

Karoori wala Zarda with topping of Chum Chum and Murubba has to be the top seller.

What advice could you offer someone who is inexperienced and would like to take a step towards the kitchen?

Never lose heart and don’t get discouraged by other’s Opinion.

What’s your favorite dish to prepare for your family?

Oh my family is a crazy foodie bunch; they love everything which is delicious from Desi Khaabay to world renowned delicacies.

What is your favorite kitchen equipment or gadget?

It surely has to be my blender.

What do you think is the most challenging ingredient to work with?

Many people may find it strange but I find pasta real tricky as has to be timed perfectly otherwise It can be too soft or too hard.
